Standard 19" Rack Cases - Nomad

19" Rack Cases

Rack-mounted equipment is the backbone of professional audio, broadcast and live production — and just as critical in IT, server rooms, AV installation, education and business. Wherever it travels or lives, it needs transit protection built to the same standard. Our 19" rack systems cover everything from compact 3U cases through to large touring racks, in both rack cases and rack sleeves, plus shock-mounted options for sensitive electronics.

Every rack is hand-built in our Market Harborough workshop using 9mm hexa-laminate panels, aircraft-grade aluminium extrusions, and genuine Penn Elcom hardware — built to standard 19" rack units so your equipment mounts straight in. Whether you need a single rack case, a matched touring set, a case for a server or comms rack, or a rackmount case with wheels, browse the full range below or talk to us about a custom build.

When you're moving or housing sound, lighting, IT, networking or communications gear, you need a case that doesn't just promise security — it delivers absolute compatibility. Built for the road and the rack room alike, our 19" rack flight cases keep your equipment perfectly aligned and fully operational, whether it's touring, in daily transit, or permanently installed on site.

Our Solutions

PREMIUM Equipment PROTECTION

The Industry Standard: 19" Rack Flight Cases

Built to standard 19" rack units, our rack cases take your rack-mounted equipment straight in and protect it through touring, transit, installation and storage. Available from 3U upwards, each is hand-made in the UK with 9mm hexa-laminate panels, aluminium extrusions and Penn Elcom hardware. Add wheels, castors, or custom foam to suit your setup — or step up to a shock-mounted rack for sensitive electronics.

Rack equipment is the nerve centre of any professional setup — from touring sound and broadcast to server rooms, IT and AV installs, schools and corporate sites — and it's exactly the kind of gear that can't afford a knock in transit. We build rack cases that take your rack-mounted equipment straight in and keep it protected wherever it travels or lives.

Hand-made in our Market Harborough workshop since 1961, every Nomad rack case is built to standard rack units (U), using 9mm hexa-laminate panels, aircraft-grade aluminium extrusions, and Penn Elcom hardware. From compact racks for a couple of units up to large touring racks, and from standard builds through to foam shock-mounted systems for sensitive electronics, we engineer the case around your equipment and your logistics — not a fixed catalogue.

Built to Standard Rack Units (U)

Our rack cases are built to standard 19" rack sizing, so your existing rackmounted equipment — amps, processors, power distribution, servers, switches, comms, control and audio gear — fits straight in. Tell us the number of U's you need and your depth requirements, and we build to fit your current setup. We build from 2U up to 40U+ and can accommodate variable and extended depths for deeper equipment.

Standard vs Shock-Mounted Racks

Not all rack gear needs the same protection. For robust, everyday transport we build standard rack cases that take the knocks of touring and transit. For sensitive electronics — anything vibration-prone or mission-critical — our foam shock-mounted rack cases suspend the rack frame to absorb impact and road vibration, keeping delicate equipment isolated from the journey. We'll advise which is right for your kit. Check out our Foam Shock Mounted Racks.

Custom Foam and Internal Fit

Beyond the rack rails, we fit cases out around how you actually work — cable management, accessory storage, lid space for leads and tools, and CNC-routed foam where it's needed. Check out our Custom Foam Inserts.

Engineered for Seamless Integration

We focus on the small, critical details that make installation and daily use hassle-free:

  • Double Punched Rack Rails: Your equipment seats perfectly onto double punched rack rails fitted directly to both the inside front and rear of the case. This ensures maximum stability and mounting flexibility for your units.
  • Standardised Depth: The standard internal depth of 450mm provides ample room for most industry equipment, cable routing, and rear connections.
  • Smart Spacing: Our rails are expertly fixed at approximately 20mm off the front edge. This smart spacing is essential, allowing you the option to easily integrate accessories like our R0855K rack shelf supports or other specialist hardware.

These cases are the reliable standard for any setup that demands professional-grade protection and 19-inch rack compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

What rack sizes (U) do you make?

Because every case is built to order, you're not limited to off-the-shelf sizes: tell us the U-count you need and your depth requirements, and we'll build the rack to match your equipment exactly.

Will your rack cases fit my existing equipment?

Yes. Our rack cases are built to standard 19" rack sizing, so rack-mountable amps, processors, power, comms, and control gear fit straight in. Let us know the number of U's and any depth requirements, and we'll build the case to suit your current setup rather than asking you to work around it.

What's the difference between a standard and a shock-mounted rack case?

A standard rack case protects against the everyday knocks of transport and touring. A foam shock-mounted rack case goes further — the inner rack frame is suspended to absorb impact and vibration, isolating sensitive electronics from the journey. If your kit is vibration-prone or mission-critical, shock-mounting is the safer choice, and we're happy to advise.

What materials do you use?

Every rack case is built from 9mm hexa-laminate panels with aircraft-grade aluminium extrusions and Penn Elcom hardware, hand-assembled in our UK workshop. They're engineered to survive repeated freight, handling, and the realities of professional touring and transit

What's the typical lead time?

Typical lead time is 2–4 weeks from sign-off on the final spec, depending on complexity and finish. For matched sets or larger orders we'll confirm a timeline up front. If you're working to a deadline, tell us — we'll always be straight about what's achievable rather than promise what we can't hit.

Can you build matched sets of racks?

Yes. We regularly build matched sets — consistent construction, finish, and branding across multiple racks — so a full rack inventory stacks, loads, and travels as a coordinated system.
