Suspended Shock Mounted Rack Cases - Nomad

Suspended Shock Mounted Rack Cases

Suspended Shock Mounted Rack Cases

For the most sensitive, most valuable gear you put on the road, nothing protects like full suspension. Our suspended shock-mounted rack cases hold a black powder-coated steel inner frame floated inside the outer shell on anti-vibration mounts, so impact and high-frequency vibration are absorbed before they ever reach your equipment. Built around the Penn Elcom R88XX frame with flanged dome mounts, this is the highest level of in-transit protection we make — engineered for servers, broadcast engineering racks, recording and measurement gear, and anything that simply cannot afford to be jolted.

Every suspended rack in this collection is hand-built in our Market Harborough workshop from European birch plywood with 10mm panel construction and a hardwearing hexaboard finish. The suspended steel frame mounts your kit to standard 19" rack units, front and rear, and the whole assembly rides isolated from the case body — by air, sea or road.

True suspension, not just padding

The difference is in the engineering. Rather than packing gear in foam, a suspended shock-mounted rack case decouples the entire rack frame from the outer case on dome-style anti-vibration mounts. The frame floats; shocks dissipate through the mounts instead of through your chassis. It's the choice when downtime isn't an option and the payload is irreplaceable.

A size for every rack

We build each height as its own product rather than burying you in variants. Choose the U height that matches your equipment:

  • 2U6U suspended shock-mounted rack cases — sensitive interfaces, measurement and audio gear.
  • 8U12U suspended shock-mounted rack cases — engineering, comms and control racks for touring and broadcast.
  • 16U28U suspended shock-mounted rack cases — servers, data and large signal-processing systems.

Count your rack units, leave room for cable management and airflow, then size up. Not sure? Our team will spec it with you in minutes.

Standard on every suspended rack

  • Powder-coated steel inner frame on anti-vibration mounts — Penn Elcom R88XX with flanged dome mounts.
  • Full 19" front & rear racking — your kit mounted square and secure.
  • Birch ply, 10mm construction — UK-manufactured to the highest spec.
  • Industrial latches, recessed handles and heavy-duty casters — built for constant handling.
  • Wide finish range — hexaboard as standard, plus HPL, rigid PVC, flight panel and UltraFlite in a full palette of colours.

Which rack is right for you?

Nomad builds four levels of rack protection. Pick a slam rack for direct mounting of robust gear, a foam shock-mounted rack for affordable vibration damping, a shock mount slam rack for fast-access shock protection, or a suspended shock-mounted rack for the ultimate in vibration isolation. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a suspended shock-mounted rack case?

A 19" rack case where the inner rack frame is mounted on anti-vibration mounts and floats inside the outer shell, isolating equipment from impact and vibration in transit.

Suspended vs foam shock-mounted — what's the difference?

Foam mounting floats an inner sleeve on closed-cell foam (Plastazote LD29) for cost-effective damping. Suspended mounting decouples a steel frame on dome mounts for the highest level of isolation.

What gear is it best for?

Servers, broadcast and engineering racks, recording, test and measurement equipment — anything sensitive, valuable or mission-critical.
