Slam Rack Cases

Slam Rack Cases

Tour-grade rack protection built to survive the drop and fire up flawlessly on stage.

Rack-mount gear that travels needs a case that mounts hard, opens fast and takes a beating. Our slam rack cases do exactly that: equipment bolts straight into Penn Elcom-spec 19" rack rails, with removable front and rear lids for tool-free access to your patching and cabling. No foam, no fuss — just a rigid, direct-mount rack case that keeps amps, processors, power, comms and control gear show-ready on the road, in the air or at sea.

Every slam rack in this collection is hand-built in our Market Harborough workshop from European birch plywood with a hardwearing hexaboard finish, 10mm panel construction and 2mm double-leg rack strips bolted front and rear. The rack strips are spaced to accept Penn side supports, so your kit sits square, secure and properly supported through every load-in.

Front & rear access, built around your rack

The twin-lid "slam" design is what makes these cases a touring and AV favourite. Pop both lids and you can rack gear from the front and wire it from the back without lifting anything out — the fastest way to get a rack patched, powered and running under deadline.

A size for every rack

Because rack needs vary, we build each height as its own product rather than burying you in variants. Choose the U height that matches your equipment:

  • 3U6U slam rack cases — amps, interfaces, switchers and compact processing racks.
  • 8U12U slam rack cases — the touring and AV workhorses for engineering, comms and control racks.
  • 16U26U slam rack cases — full-depth racks for servers, large signal-processing and power distribution.

Count your rack units, leave room for cable management and airflow, then size up. Not sure? Our team will spec it with you in minutes.

Standard on every slam rack

  • Penn Elcom-spec 19" racking — double-leg rack strips, front and rear, bolted in place.
  • Removable front & rear lids — fast, tool-free access for racking and patching.
  • Industrial latches, recessed handles and heavy-duty casters — built for constant handling.
  • Wide finish range — hexaboard as standard, plus HPL, rigid PVC, flight panel and UltraFlite in a full palette of colours.

Slam rack or shock mount?

A slam rack is the right call when your gear is robust enough to mount directly — it's lighter and more cost-effective. If you're transporting sensitive electronics, servers or anything vibration-shy, step up to our shock mount rack cases, where the inner frame is suspended on anti-vibration mounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a Slam Rack and a Standard Rack Case?

A Standard Rack Case is built for storage and routine transit protection. A Slam Rack is built for the touring environment — designed so a digital mixing engine, amplifier rack, or control system can survive a drop off a tail-lift and power on flawlessly for the show. Heavier-duty build, slam-latch lid for fast stage access, and finish options designed for the rigours of touring.

What U-sizes do you make Slam Racks in?

Slam Racks are available across a wide U-range as standard, and we can build custom U-counts on request. Browse the full range below — and if you need a size or depth not listed, tell us what you're housing and we'll build it to fit.

What's the difference between a Slam Rack and a Shock Mount Slam Rack?

A Slam Rack is built for impact protection during transit and quick stage deployment. A Shock Mount Slam Rack adds an internal suspension system that further isolates sensitive electronics from road vibration and impact — designed for ultra-sensitive equipment where even tour-grade impact protection isn't enough. Choose Slam Rack for most touring gear; choose Shock Mount Slam Rack for the most vibration-sensitive electronics.

Can I customise the colour and panel finish?

Slam Racks are available in a full range of colours (Black, White, Grey, Red, Blue, Yellow and more) and panel finishes including Hexaboard (standard), HPL, Rigid PVC, Flight Panel, UltraFlite, and Diamond Board. Useful for fleet identification, brand matching, or just making your kit easy to spot in a loading bay full of black cases.

How long does it take to build?

Standard lead time is 2-4 weeks from order confirmation, depending on current workshop scheduling and any custom requirements. We'll confirm your build slot when you place the order.

Are castors and handles included?

Slam Racks come with recessed handles as standard, and the larger sizes come with heavy-duty castors (including braked castors for stability when loaded). For smaller sizes or specific castor preferences, tell us at quote stage.
